Position Overview:
The Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) is responsible for ensuring adherence to all pharmacy procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all applicable company policies, as well as state and federal regulations.
Working under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy Operations, the PIC is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and compliant dispensing of medications while providing strong operational leadership. This role emphasizes team management, employee development, fostering positive workplace relationships, and maintaining a culture of accountability, collaboration, and exceptional customer service.

Pharmacist In Charge Responsibilities:
- Evaluate medication orders for appropriateness of drug therapy, dosage, potential interactions, and proper administration.
- Ensure medications are accurately dispensed, packaged, and labeled.
- Make recommendations for therapy changes to physicians and facility staff when appropriate.
- Maintain customer records including medical history, clinical information, laboratory data, and medication profiles.
- Investigate and resolve medication-related questions and concerns.
- Communicate effectively with facility nursing staff, physicians, consultants, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy.
- Supervise the preparation and dispensing of medications while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Maintain controlled substance records and inventory in accordance with legal requirements.
- Ensure proper security, storage, and handling of medications.
- Participate in the on-call rotation as required.
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop pharmacy staff while promoting a positive, respectful, and accountable work environment.
- Build strong employee relationships through effective communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, and ongoing coaching.
- Manage daily pharmacy operations, staffing, workflow, scheduling, and performance to ensure operational efficiency and exceptional customer service.
- Provide performance feedback, support employee development, and partner with leadership on recruiting, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
- Promote compliance with company policies, SOPs, quality standards, and regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Serve as a leader and role model by encouraging collaboration, accountability, and professional excellence throughout the pharmacy team.
Pharmacist In Charge Qualifications
- Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Kentucky.
- 5-10 years of pharmacy experience in hospital, retail, long-term care, or other healthcare settings.
- Long-Term Care pharmacy experience preferred.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or pharmacy management experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build employee engagement, and foster positive working relationships.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficient computer skills.
